Spring has sprung, although here where I live it is a gloomy, cold and bitter 41 degrees Fahrenheit and a wet snow storm is on the way. “They” always say that March comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lion and I have seen snow as late as May 1st. Yet the Magnolias, daffodils, crocus and hyacinths are blooming. The forsythia are pushing little golden crowns out from their branches, but it is the Magnolias that always keep me on watch for snow because here on the East Coast it is an indicator to me that one last snow is on the way for it always destroys the beauty of the Magnolia blooms and they never get to realize a full life; it is always cut short by the storm.
Vernal Equinox / Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra- That is what this week’s energy will be like, the blooming Magnolia blossoms cut short by the storm. We have the Vernal Equinox here in the Northern Hemisphere (Autumnal in the Southern Hemi); for Spring, it is a time to take action. It is a time of rebirth and renewal; regeneration or new life and ideas. For Autumn, it will be a time of preparation for rest and retreat. There is a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra on March 23rd. We know that Full Moons make people do crazy things, think crazy things, they are a purging of energy, vomiting what is no longer needed. Top that off with a Lunar Eclipse that makes us look at our shadow side of ourselves; the side that we do not like to look at in the mirror, the side that we all like to pretend is not there and does not exist – who likes to admit there flaws and faults? This eclipse is in Libra and that energy is that of our relationships, partnerships, or love for ourselves and others, balance and harmony. This full moon will force you to see where these parts of your life are falling short, yet gives you the ability to get rid of or purge your flawed beliefs or faulty actions in these aspects of your life. As painful as this Moon can be for some of us, if you allow yourself to flow with the tide of this moon, you will be able to come out on the other end of this over the weekend the victor. When we resist looking at parts of ourselves that are not pleasant, you stay stuck in your own crap; a whirlpool of chaos. Just look at these aspects, feel them and then let them go. Decide this week how you want your relationships to flow, who do you want in your life? How do you want to treat them and how do you want to be treated? How can you better harmonize and balance with the people in your life. How can you better balance your work and family life?
Peace, harmony and balance- Doesn’t everyone just want that? I know I do and I have found that the easiest way to peace, harmony, balance and Bliss is in mindfulness and being present in the moment. I have found more joy and bliss in disconnecting to become connected; turning off the devices and social media in order to en-joy the present moment and the people around me. How can we be present while a cell phone is stuck to our ear or our eyes are focused on a screen. Kind of ironic for me as my means of existence is being connected, be searching screens and gaining information and knowledge to share on all of the popular platforms; however, there are limits that I set for myself and my family. I demand that no devices be present at the dinner or lunch table. When we are enjoying a meal, that is what we are doing – enjoying. Savoring the food and each other. I also schedule many of my posts during the course of the day and week so that I can enjoy life. I have a shut down time every day of 8:00 p.m. and I retire my phone and laptop so that I can prepare for bed; my body requires a lot of rest and rejuvenation. My family demands that I put down my phone if we are watching a movie or television show together. We place these demands on each other to keep ourselves in check and keep ourselves present with each other. I feel as a generation we are losing touch with each other in order to “stay in touch” with each other; we are losing real communication and social skills and I fear how disconnected socially people will be in 20 years from now as children are given devices at birth and are not learning true skills of feeling and communication. Maybe IQs are rising, but the successful are those with high EQs or Emotional Quotient – the ability of self awareness. Be present in as many everyday experiences as possible; when showering – feel the temperature and pulse of the water, close your eyes and really feel it, stop and smell the roses along the way (Spring is here and they will be blooming), when you are with your children, really be with your children and have conversations. The more times you can stop and check in with yourself everyday will help you stay mindful and present. Multitasking is a myth – we truthfully can only do one thing well at a time.
