The South Node, also known as the Dragon’s Tail, the place where we are eliminating from in the Sign of Scorpio – the Sign of Elimination. The Nodes can be tough enough on their own, but the Scorpio/Taurus axis hits us deeply; in the place of our needs. Material, physical, and emotional, possibly spiritual, but needs nonetheless; the things we need to survive and thrive in this world.
The Eclipses may seem like nothing much depending on where they fall in our charts and it is possible we do not notice them because the energy of taking away and bring in may show up preceeding an Eclipse or weeks, months or a year after the event so what they bring or take away goes unnoticed. When the Eclipse and Nodes are in Scorpio, we feel it, we feel all of it for the entire 18 months of residence, we feel it for a year following or sometimes forever because Taurus and Scorpio are Fixed Sign Elements and that fixity can last a lifetime; along with the Leo/Aquarius axis. The previous Gemini/Sagittarius axis is Mutuable Sign Element and so it bends and moves, the Air blows fast and the Fire burns quickly; one could say that of the Leo/Aquarius, but that Air blows hot and is unyielding while the Fire of Leo is as eternal as the flame of the Sun itself. The Cardinal Elements of Aries/Libra and Cancer/Capricorn bear their own difficulties, but initiate new beginnings after a long arduous difficulty.

Scorpio also oddly also Rules the Nose and foul smells like rotting meat, death and quite literally excrement. So think about the South Node in Scorpio and then a Solar Eclipse in that same place; it is going to illuminate the shit in our lives and eliminate it if we don’t. Shit may be way too harsh because those that we love and are dying or will be dying are not “shit”, but they have served their useful purpose in our lives and will be eliminated whether we like it or not. Scorpio could quite often be the things that we are most passionate about, so those losses are painful. With Venus in this mix also at 2° Scorpio along with the Sun and Moon at 2° Scorpio there will be something that we value and personally identify with that could be lost. It will be important to process all our emotions and to allow them to flow otherwise we will create dis-ease in the body that could manifest in a harmful way. Scorpio tends to hold emotion in and put on the facade of Strength from Mars and Pluto (his Ruling Planets); however, the repression of emotions leads to Anger from Mars to full blown out rage from Pluto. This 2° of Scorpio’s Sabian Symbol as “A Broken Bottle and Spilled Perfume” The Chandra Symbol is “Pigs Being Fed” symbolizing Feast and Famine.
In two weeks on November 8, 2022 we follow up with a Total Lunar Eclipse in Taurus at 16°. This is a North Node Eclipse where letting go to bring forth occurs.
In viewing South Node eclipses, be open to positive manifestations. The outflowing tide suggested by a South Node event is often surprisingly positive for release, cleansing, giving, accepting, forgiving, volunteering, dissemination, bequeathing, “letting go”, relaxing, and spiritual epiphanies! These are good concepts to keep at hand, especially when working with concerned clients.
Conversely, North Node eclipses bring the celestial tides rushing in, and most folks prefer arrivals to departures. However, as positive as these events so often are, (within the upcoming yearly quarter or year), they are not invariably so. Be prepared for possible “overload” in the arena of a North Node event. Or, consider, what exactly is arriving?
The four basic Eclipses and their energy –
- Solar North Node celestial tide flowing in: “power surge”
- Solar South Node celestial tide flowing out: “power outage”, release
- Lunar North Node ‘tide in’ at Moon’s end / tide out at Sun’s (suction)
- Lunar South Node ‘tide out’ at Moon’s end / tide in at Sun’s end (suction)
Look in your own chart to see where this year’s Eclipses land and the Houses they are in will determine the themes that play out. Depending on the aspects to your own chart (Squares, Conjunctions, Trines and Oppositions) could also bring in other Houses into our themes. For example, here is my birth chart. I am a Taurus Rising, therefore I have Taurus in the 1st House, conversely, I have Scorpio in the 7th House. 1st House represents myself, my self image and self esteem, the face that I show the world. The 7th House are my relationships. Because I am using the Equal House System, the cusp of each of my Houses begin with the degree of my Rising Sign, which is 7°, therefore, with the Eclipse being at 2° of Scorpio/Taurus, this Eclipse falls in my 12th and 6th Houses. Twelfth House is considered the “unseen realm,” and governs all things that exist without physical forms, like dreams, secrets, and emotions. The Sixth House is the House of Health and Work. This house represents the responsibilities in your everyday life, like holding a job, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining an exercise routine, the 6th House also includes our pets and small animals and our overall mental well-being. So, this would say there is something that I am not seeing or maybe I am and it most likely involves something in my daily life. Full disclosure, I am currently nursing (12th House) my Beagle (6th House) who is dying from lymphoma. He does not have long and I expect a turn for the worst when we have the Total Lunar Eclipse in Taurus in two weeks. You can also see in my chart that this Eclipse hits my 3rd House of Siblings and my Midheaven in the 9th House of public persona, image and career path. I could expect my career to have changes and the possible loss of a sibling due to a health issue- my lines and the orbs are not exact and technically I do not have any planets in any of those Houses, but it still takes on the flavor of the Signs in those Houses and their Ruling Planets. For the Squares to be perfect and for all of us the Axis Squares to Scorpio and Taurus are Leo and Aquarius. These Signs will have the most difficulty from the Eclipse energy.
