Mercury Retrograde

Mercury, the planet of communication, coordination, organization and analytics.  When Mercury is moving directly, things seem to go smoothly.  When Mercury is Retrograde, things can get botched, but do not panic!

Mercury Retrograde is such a great time to go within and analyze yourself instead of extending your thoughts outward.  I always liken Mercury Retrograde as the time of “RE”:  rethink, readjust, relax, rejuvenate; you get the idea.  I always like to put a positive spin on Mercury Retrograde instead of pushing the panic button, like so many do.

The only caution that I do follow during Mercury Retrograde would be; Do not sign any contracts, do not get involved in a new relationship (no first dates during this time), do not make travel reservations, do not start any new ventures.  Be prepared for communication breakdowns, especially where electronics are concerned.  Know these things in advance so that you do not get pissed off and disappointed when that email, text or voice message does not make it to its intended destination; the firey spark you had with that new red hot lover fizzles out when Mercury goes direct; the hotel/airline has no record of your reservation and you are stranded.  Also, I keep an eye on any electronic transaction that I make, including bank and ATM transactions and anything that I may purchase on line during this time, although I do try to avoid that.  My goal is to know in advance when Mercury is going Retrograde, take a look at my calendar and agendas over the coming weeks and plan accordingly.  I try to tie up all of those loose ends in advance so that I can go through it smooth sailing.

We are already beginning to feel the shadow effect of Mercury Retrograde.  About two weeks before and two weeks after the official Retrograde period, we start to feel the shadow effect.  What does that mean?  Simply put, you may start to feel some communication issues at work, at home, in your friendships.  You may have a hard time gathering your thoughts and verbalizing them the way you’ve compiled them in your head.  Electronics may start to go “wonky”, minor glitches.  You may experience travel delays; more traffic or accidents that hold you up from getting from A to B in the usual or normal time frame.  No worries, just pay extra attention to important matters; check, double check everything before finalizing.  We really should be doing that anyway when it comes to important contracts, meetings, reservations, but in this fast paced world (also ruled by Mercury’s speed) we multi-task everything just to get as much done as quickly as possible that we bypass the finer details.

Although Mercury’s Retrograde will start out at the tail end of Earth Sign Taurus, all of the Retrogrades for 2015 are considered to be residing in the Air Signs of Aquarius (January-February) Gemini (May-June) and Libra (September-October).  This Retrograde is especially important to me as I am a Gemini, my rising sign is in Gemini, my Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are all in Gemini; so if you think being a Gemini is tough (the sign of the twins) try living in my head with so much Gemini in my chart.  It’s like living with 10 people in one body!  So I pay attention when Mercury Retrograde is in Gemini. I know that this is a time for me to Retreat, even though I should be gearing up to celebrate my birthday.  Sidenote:  while typing out this sentence above, Mercury Retrograde just gave me a quick glimpse of its shadow….I hit “something” on the computer and everything I just typed for the last hour disappeared.  I went into PANIC mode (what I suggest not to do) I think OMG! I did not back up the document, OMG!  I took a breath, and spot the “Undo” button and Whew! It worked, blog re-trieved.  Just taught myself a very good lesson, to check, double check, back up, save anything we are working on.

So, how will this Retrograde affect you?  Well, if you are an Air Sign (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra) you may feel or experience some delays and upsets.  Also, if you are like me and have a lot of Gemini in your chart you can examine those areas.  Also, if you know your chart and you know where Gemini shows up, those areas could be effected as well.
