Feng Shui Friday- The Heart & Center
I really do try my very best to be as “Feng Shui” as possible and follow most of these practices because I believe they really do work. I always keep my toilet seat down before I flush, I really try to keep my home, car and work office clutter free, but nobody is perfect (well I guess some people are, but I am not). I really need to get into my home office, attic, garage, and put away the clean laundry in my bedroom; for the most part my house is really clean and my work office is spotless, I just always feel better when everything is clutter free – it makes me more productive and Zen.
Last week I presented this Bagua below. This week I would like to start right in the center or heart of your home and office.
All of your fortune and health of your space depends on this area. This area touches or connects all areas of your space. You want to make sure this area is clear and accentuated to compliment this heart so that you can have good fortune, health, romance, career and so on.
Here are the basics:
- Element: Earth
- Best Color: Earth-Tones/Yellow
- Best Shapes: Horizontal, Flat, and Squared
- Complementary Items: Red, Fire, Pointed or Triangular
- Destructive Items: Green, Wood, Columnar, Mirrors or Water
So I am looking at this above list and I am thinking “I will not have Yellow in my living room and my coffee table (although is kind of triangular) has wood legs and I really like it. I can use a splash of red – Maybe? And I am not doing Green in here either. Is Gray an Earth Tone? My furniture is all Earth Tones, so I am very close.
Everyone will consider the center differently depending on your floor plan, but I like to think of it as where everyone passes through to get to the other areas. If you are like me and not wanting to change the colors of your walls and décor you can do some easy fixes or enhancements to the area and bring in small elements of the above list such as:
- A fire element, like candles
- A Potted Plant
- A picture of fire, plants or a mountain for a grounding force
- Anything yellow, gold or green and earthy
I mentioned avoiding mirrors. Mirrors are always big no-no’s in Feng Shui and I LOVE mirrors. I especially love the mirror that I searched a year for that resides in my living room’s heart center. I balance that mirror out with an electric fire place underneath it (fire element) and I have lovely candles on the mantle as well that I actually burn almost daily and they make my house smell really good too. The wood of the fire place and the candles are earth and fiery and together they balance out the water element of the mirror.
Most importantly in all Feng Shui practices – if you cannot do anything except clean the clutter do that first and foremost above all things. Do not over do any one element anywhere, you will defeat the healthy balance…balance is key!
Next week I am going to write about our Careers and Feng Shui – how to prosper!
