There always seems to be something new on the horizon when it comes to Astrology and Astronomy and this coming week we have a very rare enigmatic “Blue” Moon in the Sign of Aquarius. Questionable as the standard definition of a Blue Moon would be the second Full Moon in the same month; however, this is ever more rare is that we have a second Full Moon in a same Sign as a previous Full Moon; hence, the “‘Blue” coined from the colloquialism “Once in a Blue Moon”, because they are so rare and do not typically happen that often. It is not occurring in the same month, but we typically only see one Full and one New Moon per Sign each year telling me that we should pay attention and put more weight on to this Sign’s energy. It also aligns with the significance of the Aquarian energy that was ushered in on the Solstice December 21, 2020 with the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn (another spectacular and rare event). That alignment also moved us from an Earth based generation into an Air based generation; one that will carry for approximately 200 years.
Let us take a look at some key points for this Aquarian energy; It is an Air Sign, the air we breathe, the air waves of communication and technology, air travel and transport, Air flows invisibly and is linked to our mental thoughts, intellectual and social. Air is most detached from the animal and human kingdom; it exists outside of that and is mostly disconnected from emotions which could lead to difficulties when trying to connect on a grounded level with humans. Symbolized by the Water Bearer, one might think this is a Water Sign, but to the contrary, she is the bringer to humanity, the elixir of life. Aquarius is somehow knowns as the Humanitarian Sign, but I still have not seen evidence of that yet personally. The Key Phrase is “I Know”, which can often be an arrogant declaration. Positive Key Words include: independent, reforming, eccentric, unconventional, innovative, inventive. Challenging Key Words include: disorganized, anarchist, deviant, erratic and unpredictable. Aquarius is a Masculine energy and it is a Fixed Sign; fixed in it’s ways and maybe a little stubborn because of the “I Know” motto. Traditionally Ruled by Jupiter it would have been an expansive and mostly benefic energy, although, if you have ever read my article on Jupiter/Zeus you would know that he doles out the blessings and ills equally. The Modern Ruler of Aquarius is now Uranus; the planet that governs innovation, technology, and surprising events.
Back to this Full Blue Sturgeon Moon. It occurs on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 8:02 am EST; 5:02 am PST and 12:02 pm London UK time at 29 degrees 37′; Sun in Leo at the same degrees. The previous Aquarius Full Moon in July was at 1 degree. Which brings me to how did we get to have a second Full Moon in Aquarius. It is all in the math. There are 30 degrees to each Sign 0-29, if there is a Full Moon in the very early degrees such as 0 or 1, maybe 2 degrees, then the 28 day-ish cycle of the Moon would bring us a second Full Moon in that same Sign around 27, 28 or 29th degree of that Sign. Let’s put into play this 29th degree of Aquarius. The last degree of any Sign is known as the anaretic degree. It combines all of the energy of all the degrees of that Sign; it also nets to an 11 which is purity and integrity of that Sign.
If you haven’t noticed already, this Aquarian/Uranus energy that has been dominating this year has brought about many changes; often quite shocking and this is just the beginning. We all knew it and we still stand here in shock at every turn.
The Full Moon for August is called Sturgeon Moon because of the large number of fish in the lakes where the Algonquin tribes fished. Other names for this Full Moon include Green Corn Moon, Barley Moon, Fruit Moon, and Grain Moon from Old English/Anglo-Saxon. This is the time where everything is coming into full ripeness and preparations for the coming Harvest begin. I would also like to call it the End of Summer Moon because I can already start to feel a shift in the Season on the way.
The July Full Moon in Aquarius at 1 degree opened us up to the world, world causes, but we have to remember, the Sun was at 1 degree of Leo; the “I Will” energy, one of the self and of the ego some may say; it can be very determined. Now we are coming into a Full Moon and Sun at the 29th degree where we have matured and grown allowing us to not only take care of our own personal needs, but to now extend it out into humanity. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Uranus will be going Retrograde on August 19th, days leading up to this Full Moon; which gives way to inner reflection. It goes without saying sometime that there is always an imbalance during the Full Moon between the Sun and the Moon, in this case Leo and Aquarius; both Fixed and both Masculine, so we may be out of balance with our feminine side, aggression over empathy.
Key aspects to look out for:
- Jupiter conjuncts the Moon – expanding that Lunar energy and the ability to discard.
- Eris and Pluto Squaring at 24 degrees; the Goddess of Chaos and Discord, Strife and Creation fights it out with the Lord of the Underworld. Eris in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn; she is fighting for humanity, wanting everyone to have a say, have a voice as Pluto in Capricorn clings on to to the past Earth based densities. We see the polarity happening now on the planet. Human Rights versus Establishment Rights. Expect social unrest and revolution.
- Mercury and Mars are conjunct in Virgo giving all a voice; dealing with the day to day details and allowing us all to see what might be out of alignment.
- Mercury in Virgo Trines Uranus in Taurus bringing forth new ideas to the playing field.
- Venus in Libra Trining the North Node in Gemini and South Node in Sagittarius indicating a fated and destined event is on the way. Also Trines Saturn in Aquarius, bringing a softer side to the rigidity; work flows well now.
- Grand Trine in Air -expect shocking, unexpected communications coming out in the media; turn of events including the “message” , air travel, technology, commerce and communication technologies.
- Uranus in Taurus, Ceres in Gemini with a Square to the Sun and Moon we could see a delay in commerce, supplies which include goods and food, which overall triggers fears of survival.
- Uranus Retrograde is asking us to go within and seek out our values; this conversely could create natural disruptions through earthquakes, eruptions, tornados and hurricanes alike.
- Mercury and Mars in Virgo allows us to heal holistically and through the treasures of the Earth such as herbs and grounding, bodies of water, nature walks and gardening.
- Black Moon Lilith could bring about the uncertainty of what we are hearing; what is true? A shadow side is revealed.
